Here’s our weekly review rounding up the best stories and ideas in public space from cities around the world. This week we bring you 10 parks that have revived their cities, adaptive reuse of car tires and sending emails to urban trees.

  • Love letters to urban trees
  • The city of Melbourne assigned trees email addresses so citizens could report problems. Instead, people wrote thousands of love letters to their favorite trees. (via The Atlantic)
  • Parks that revived their cities
  • From Detroit to Dallas, these 10 park upgrades helped revived their cities. The public spaces are defined by the ability to promote interaction and encourage people to linger via great seating, food and activities. Check out the 10 parks here. (via USA Today)
  • Adaptive reuse
  • Trees in Seattle are taking their chances in a soil substitute made of reused car tires. The granite composite and tire mix creates a permeable material for air and water but prevents weed growth therefore requiring little to no maintenance. The "flexi-pave" used in Seattle for the pilot project diverted 220 tires from going to the dump. (via CityLab)
